I picked up a copy of Rusty Moore's Visual Impact Muscle Building a few years ago. This book helped me improve on the training program I get my clients to do. It also improved my own training, so I thought I'd do a quick review to make sure you don't miss out on it.

Rusty's program is in no way a replacement for How To Lose Man Boobs Naturally. It isn't a guide for losing man boobs, but the training principles in this program are very useful for man boob sufferers.

What Rusty's book does is provide advanced tactics that will help further consolidate your chest.

The main thing to note about Visual Impact Muscle Building, and the reason I recommend it to my clients, is it's one of those rare gems that brings something new to the fitness scene.

Unlike 99% of other programs, you won't be able to find the stuff in THIS book, anywhere on the internet (except on Rusty's website), or in any other book. Rusty with a couple of decades of experience under his belt, has actually invented some novel concepts in muscle building.

So What Is The Program About?

As the name suggests, Visual Impact Muscle Building is a muscle-building guide. Building muscle plays an important role in losing man boobs….

  1. The process of building muscle can boost testosterone levels.
  2. Having a larger muscle-mass increases your metabolism, and helps you burn fat throughout the day.
  3. Muscle also helps shape your body so you don't look like a guy with man boobs.

Unfortunately, with the way a lot of guys work out their chest, they end up looking like they've got man boobs, even if they didn't have man boobs to begin with. This is why you'll see a lot of folks out there saying you shouldn't do push-ups and you shouldn't do bench presses because "they'll just make your man boobs bigger".

The truth is, these exercises only make your man boobs bigger if you do them the wrong way.

One common mistake is focusing too much on sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy is the kind of muscle growth that happens when you lift moderately heavy weights through an 8-12 repetition range. With sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, you grow the fluid inside the muscle cell – called the 'sarcoplasm'.

Although this is the quickest and easiest way to grow muscle, and the method that results in the most testosterone release, this type of training typically results in bloated, puffy-looking 'soft' muscle.

In Visual Impact Muscle Building, Rusty shows you how you can convert this soft muscle into hard muscle. You do this by changing certain parameters in your workouts to target myofibrillar hypertrophy. This is where you actually grow the contractile proteins within the muscle cells.

This type of training makes you stronger, and increases the density of your muscles. It'll give you that hard, 'GQ'-type look, or as Rusty calls it, the "Hollywood" look.

Now before I read Visual Impact Muscle Building, I used to do sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar hypertrophy training separately on different workouts. But Rusty has 4 different methods that allow you to combine both types of training in one workout. He tells you about these types of training in his book.

These 4 types of training are called 'hybrid training'. Of all the books I've read, Visual Impact Muscle Building is the only book that covers this in detail.

So how can hybrid training be helpful to you as as a man boob sufferer?

Well like I say, this is an advanced program. Once you've grown the amount of muscle you are happy with, and lost most of the excess fat on your chest using the principles I teach you in How To Lose Man Boobs Naturally, switching to hybrid training will flatten out your chest even more. Over time, your chest muscle will harden and you'll get that powerful armor-plate look.

The 3-Phase Visual Impact Training Routine

In his book, Rusty teaches you the theory so you can go away and construct your own routine. He gives you a step-by-step routine to follow, but by the time he introduces the routine, you'll know enough to let you customize the routine to your own specific needs.

Phase I: Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy

This is the beginner phase where you only focus on muscle growth and fat loss. Once you've grown the amount of muscle you're happy with, you move on to…

Phase II: Hybrid Training – Increasing Muscle Density

This is the phase where you start to harden those muscles by focusing more on myofibrillar hypertrophy.

Phase III: Strength Training – Increasing Muscle Tone

In this phase, you lift the heaviest weights through the least amount of reps. This targets myofibrillar hypertrophy, as well as another form of muscle adaptation called 'neuromuscular conditioning'.

Neuromuscular conditioning results in your muscles being in a partially contracted state at rest. Have you noticed how martial-artists usually have rock-hard bodies, as opposed to most bodybuilders who are soft and bloated?

well this is because martial artists do a lot of strength training and have good neurogenic muscle tone. Their muscles are active at rest, so their muscles are hard all the time, not just when they tense.

Bonus Phase: The Shrink-Wrap Effect

The shrink-wrap effect is a special technique coined by Rusty himself. It's a little-known method that helped Taylor Lautner sculpt his physique in New Moon. Other Hollywood celebrities have used it, but very few people know about it.

What you do here is stick to Phase II of Rusty's program for a few months. Your muscles will achieve maximum density, and will also shrink in size a little. You also reduce your fat levels way down using HIIT and a low carbohydrate diet.

During this time your skin will shrink around your smaller frame.

Then, around 6 weeks before an event like a beach party or a summer holiday, shift to Phase I, where you increase muscle size as quickly as possible. Your skin will lag behind, and will be stretched tightly around your muscles. This will give you maximum definition in your pecs and in your abs. It'll give you that powerful comic book hero look, so you can take your shirt off and have people stare at you in wonder.

What Else Does The Program Cover?

Rusty also gives you some good info on diet and supplements. He tells you how many extra calories you need to take in if you're looking to increase lean muscle mass. He gives you a useful formula so you can calculate your caloric requirements depending on your own unique specifications.

There's nothing unique here though, the info in the diet section is available online. The strong-point of the book is its unique ideas on training.

What Are The Downsides Of The Book?

LIke me, Rusty is against building huge legs. It's all too easy to build legs that disproportionately bigger than the rest of your body. I've seen in my own training how the legs can grow so easily while other parts of your body are lagging behind.

The problem I have with Rusty's program is that he tells you NOT to train legs AT ALL after a certain point. I disagree with it. Leg training is important, especially for us man-boob sufferers. Studies have shown that leg training results in the biggest release of testosterone in the body. Without the advantage of this testosterone boost, it'll be much harder for you to maintain a flat chest.

Closing Remarks

Rusty's guide is designed for guys who want to look good on the beach. Bodybuilding circles nowadays, only focus on getting as BIG as they possible can.

Rusty on the other hand, is one of few trainees who has broken away from the bodybuilding community and is addressing the other 99% of the male population – us guys who just want to look masculine, as opposed to looking like muscle-bound freaks.
